In fact, Le Corbusier was a good friend of Badovici’s and was obsessed with E-1027. After Gray and Badovici split in 1932, Badovici inherited the house and often stayed there with his wife. Against Gray’s wishes, Le Corbusier, as Bodovici’s guest, painted murals on the walls. Le Corbusier documenting his defacement of E.1027 in the Summer of 1938. It was probably not until 1946 after the war that Gray became aware that Corbusier had defaced her building. In that year Corbusier published some photographs of his ‘murals at cap martin’ in Oeurvre Complete Gray’s name was not even mentioned.

Eileen Gray broke up with Jean Badovici and moved out of E.1027, the house they had designed together. Badovici was in awe of Le Corbusier and invited him to stay on several occasions. It was during this period between 1938 and 1939 that Le Corbusier painted eight large wall murals, both inside and outside, all drawn in shallow depth with Cubist elements, some with charged sexual imagery. Aidée par son ami et amant de l’époque Jean Badovici , architecte d’origine roumaine, rédacteur en chef de “ L’Architecture Vivante “, elle consacre trois ans de sa vie pour la bâtir entre 1926 et 1929. La villa E-1027 sera ensuite vendue aux enchères et acquise en 1960 par une amie de Le Corbusier, à sa demande, pour en assurer la préservation. The Swiss born-French Modernist architect Le Corbusier was a friend of Badovici and visited the house several times after Badovici and Gray had parted. While staying as a guest in the house in 1938 and 1939, Le Corbusier painted bright murals on its plain white walls, and sometimes painted in the nude. In 1960, Villa E-1027 is sold to Mrs Schelbert, a relative of Le Corbusier whom he brought over from Switzerland.
